Details of my treatment, from March 2008, for “High Grade Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma”

Some things I did in

my spare time in hospital

Links

March 7:  I am expecting to go in to Russell's Hall, Georgina Unit, on Monday next if a bed is available.

I am grateful for the chat Yvonne and I had with Alan and Heather Humphreys on the first weekend in March.  Alan is an old scouting pal from Elmwood days and has already received a similar stem cell transplant for his leukaemia.  He outlined the effects of the treatment and Heather filled in the bits he’d forgotten.  It was Alan who suggested that I start this website so that friends and family can see how things are going and email me if they wish.

March 10:  Well, they are waiting for some results so not able to start until Wednesday at earliest.

March 12:  Still waiting.  Now told that my clinic on Tuesday next, 18th, will inform me of the results of the CT scan I had last week.  If there is not significant reduction in the tumour I may need a further lot of chemotherapy at Sandwell prior to any attempt at stem cell transplant (details of this on page 2).

March 18:  The consultant has informed me that he feels that the 3 scans that I have had in November 2007 (after the

radiotherapy), in January 2008 (after the December and January chemotherapy) and last month all appear to be the same or similar.

His conclusion is that either the chemo is not having any effect, or the remaining growths at the site are benign.  For both reasons the stem cell transplant will not be suitable at present, or perhaps ever.  The suggestion is that I am referred back to Sandwell consultants and they can carry out a biopsy to determine if the growth is benign or not.  Having gone from no plans for months, we have decided that a trip to Wales and France over Easter is on the cards.

April 2: I now have to wait until for the hospital to book a biopsy for me at Sandwell.  Now fixed for 22 April, subject to a bed being available, and I will be in overnight.

April 22: I did not have to stop in overnight in the end as the biopsy was done arthroscopically, (through 4 holes).  Mild pain today, results in 3 weeks.
