Some things I did in
my spare time in hospital
July 8
I should be starting the new chemo. today but after the infection I now have an appointment for next Tuesday.
July 15
Started the Gemcitabine and Cisplatin chemo today. It takes the form of 3 weekly treatments.
July 22
Second of the G & C treatments.
July 25
Had a new double Hickman line inserted today, only to find that it was faulty and leaked. The surgeon removed it and changed it for a single instead as they had no other doubles in stock (can you believe it?). Jane moves to Shaftsbury tomorrow.
July 28
After going in to hospital last night for hydration I am told that my white cell count is very low (neutrapaenic) and so are my platelets, so I am sent home until Sunday next with injections to boost my cell count. I am very tired again now but looking forward to a break in Wales.
August 8
I have been asked to attend a seminar for nurses to take part in a discussion regarding my Hickman line. Caught the train back from Wales, met by Sally and felt so weak that I went straight to Sandwell Hospital where they did my blood count. I was neutrapaenic and dehydrated so was admitted for six days during which I had a CT scan on 12 August.
August 18
Doctor gave me some GCF injections to boost my white cells and told me that the last chemo worked, reducing the tumour by about 33%.
September 8
Had my first of three sessions on the same chemo as July, only takes 45 minutes but leaves me tired.
September 15
Had second session, followed by a few days of extreme tiredness.
